As reported in this Los Angeles Times article dated Thursday, May 30, 1974, "The Westminster Community Theatre was started in 1961 by a group of Westminster residents who wanted to pool their talents and put on stage productions. However, there was no place to perform and so year after year, they imposed upon the various schools in the district for the use of cafeterias and gymnasiums....The theater group found a temporary home in 1969 when it leased a building in a local shopping center.  In June, 1972, the dream became a reality when ground at 7272 Maple Ave. was broken."

On Thursday night, May 30, the theatre opened their new doors for it's first premiere performance of "Don't Drink the Water."  It ran through June 22 and the rest is history.  The Westminster Community Playhouse has continued producing and performing over 300 plays and musicals.
